Bookmark often used documents

ActualDoc can bookmark your documents and folders both in your local and in the remote computers of the network. Bookmark is a 'permanent link' to some document. Bookmarks have hierarchical structure (like files and folders in the Explorer). Bookmarks are grouped into folders, folders may contain bookmarks and other folders.

All groups are child to the root one, placed onto the Bookmarks Toolbar and into the Bookmarks menu. You can turn on/off Bookmarks Toolbar using View » Toolbars menu.

When you click some bookmark, ActualDoc opens the corresponding document using the associated application. There are some different ways of bookmarks usage:

  • Click/Enter - opens a document using associated application
  • Shift + Click/Enter - explore document
  • Ctrl + Click/Enter - preview the document with built-in viewer
  • Alt + Click/Enter - print a document using associated application

You can assign an individual action for every bookmark in ActualDoc. Use bookmarks properties dialog box (mark some bookmark and select Properties from File menu). You can setup a shortcut for bookmark too.

You can reorder or edit ActualDoc bookmarks directly in the menu. Click on some toolbar group, mark a bookmark and right-click to populate a context menu. To reorder or move bookmarks between some folders, simply drag it and drop into the new position.

Quite possible the situation, when the document, referenced by some bookmark was moved, renamed or deleted. In this case, ActualDoc asks you for new location of the document when you select a bookmark. Your choice will be saved and the next time ActualDoc will use the link to new document instead of deleted one.

You can remove all bookmarks, that point to non-existing files and folders. Select Remove Dead Bookmarks ... from Bookmarks menu to clear such items. In ActualDoc Preferences, you can specify an option for automatical deletion of wrong bookmarks.

To create a bookmark, select Add Bookmark from Bookmarks menu or simply drag some file to the bookmarks toolbar, wait a moment, while the target menu will be expanded, and drop file into the appropriate position. You can create bookmarks using Windows Explorer or any other Windows application supporting files drag and drop.

To change bookmarks structure, delete obsolete bookmarks, change the caption, comment or assign a shortcut for existing bookmark select Organize Bookmarks from the Bookmarks menu.

ActualDoc can import bookmarks from any of supported application. Version 3.0 supports import from Total Commander, WinRAR, FAR, Windows favorites and Windows shell. To start import bookmarks, select Import from the File menu.
