The principle of ActualDoc work is simple: it monitor changes of any files on your computer and collect documents references and place them into the Recent Documents list for fast recurring access in future. But there is a large amount of service processes in your system causing files not interesting for users. That’s of why, a problem of changes filtration arises.
ActualDoc has an internal changed documents filtration system, intended for representation of documents changed yourself only or documents that may be interesting for you. ActualDoc setup this system on the first installation on your computer, but you can change some settings after the installation.
ActualDoc pickups documents from the stream of changed files using following criteria:
ActualDoc collects documents of some specific types only. List of this type is building on the installation and contains all documents that were registered in the system. You can add new types to this list or remove useless ones. Select ‘Stored Documents …’ from the ‘Options’ menu to call the registered types list box.
To remove some of monitoring types, uncheck the corresponding box in the list. To add a new type, click ‘Add …’ and enter the extension of new documents type in the shown dialog box (e.g. doc or jpg). Click Ok to add the new type into the list.
In ActualDoc you can restrict monitoring documents scope. You can combine this option with any other documents filtering features. To setup Documents Source conditions, please select ‘Stored documents …’ from the ‘Options’ menu and activate ‘Sources’ tab.
Turn on the ‘Store documents from following folders only’ option and enter the list of source folders for changes monitoring. Template symbols ‘*’ and ‘?’ are available in this list.
For example, C:\Project1\* means that all documents, placed in the C:\Project1 folder and all that subfolders will be included into the Recent Documents list.
Some system predefined folders may be used in this list (click ‘Windows System Folders’ button to insert):
The goal of Source Restrictions is exclusion of some folders from the scope of changes monitoring. ActualDoc will not collect changed documents from folders, specified in this list. There are some predefined system folders (e.g. temporary folder or your internet browser cache folder). To include these folders into the list, use ‘Windows system folders’ drop down menu.
When you copy a huge amount of documents from one folder into another one or install a new application, recent documents contains the mass of useless items. For exclusion of these items, ActualDoc use Mass Changes filtration feature. This helps differentiate changes of some documents on your work from mass changes on software installation of files coping/moving. You can turn off this option (if required) using ‘Options’ – ‘Stored documents’ menu, Mass changes filtration tab.
